JOIN ME AT A LATE-NIGHT CHARITY SHOPPING EVENT WITH ST OSWALD’S HOSPICE

“Generosity is the most natural outward expression of an inner attitude of compassion and loving-kindness.”

Dalai Lama

At the end of January this year, the wonderful charity St Oswald’s Hospice opened a brand-new store in Blyth, Northumberland. I was so excited with this news because I actually volunteered for the charity’s Communications and Marketing Department from December 2019 until February 2023 as a Digital Volunteer. I also completed two temporary contracts with them, one as a Communications and Marketing Assistant and the other as Kickstart Project Coordinator. So, needless to say, I’m very dedicated, supportive and passionate about the charity and all that they do. So, I wanted to tell you about their Alternative Christmas List Appeal, which is their Christmas Campaign. It is aimed at providing insight into the various impacts that different figures of donations can have on the charity, the Hospice specifically, and their patients. For example, £150 will fill the Christmas Eve boxes for the children who use the Hospice’s Services, and £450 will fund thirty bereavement sessions at a time of year when loss can hurt that little bit differently…

If you know me, you’ll know that I’m also very passionate about shopping! So, when I was told about the Late-Night Shopping Event at the Blyth St Oswald’s Hospice store, I jumped at the opportunity of attending and thought that, for the fun of it, I’d bring you all along with me…

BUDGET BLOGMAS | DAY EIGHT: THE IMPORTANCE OF A FESTIVE ENVIRONMENT | IN COLLABORATION WITH PRETTY PERFECT PRODUCTS | AD

Hello and welcome to I’m NOT Disordered’s Budget Blogmas!

So now that it’s widely agreed that it’s acceptable to put up your Christmas decorations(!), I thought I’d discuss why having a festive, Christmassy home is so important to me…

Growing up, I can remember three specific Christmas decorations:

1.     A Christmas stocking: it was a very plush, red stocking with a fluffy dog on the top that we nicknamed Judy in memory of the dog Mum grew up with.

2.     A china nativity set: the little Jesus once fell upside down and so every year we’d be looking for him and the little manger with yellow ‘hay’ would seem empty, but actually; if we just turned it the right way…!

BUDGET BLOGMAS | DAY TWO: WHY MONEY IS SO IMPORTANT IN BLOGGING & SOME ADVICE ON IT | IN COLLABORATION WITH PRETTY PERFECT PRODUCTS | AD

Hello and welcome to I’m NOT Disordered’s Budget Blogmas!

I thought that after the introductory post yesterday I should start off the real content with a bit of a typical and perhaps predictable piece about money and why it’s important enough to be a theme for an entire series of Blogmas…

I think it’d be really plain for me to sit here and talk about how I was raised around money and budgeting. To tell you that whilst I don’t remember ever wanting or being deprived of anything; I also wasn’t spoilt and never revelled in pocket money or being given gifts when it wasn’t even a special occasion! It meant that I was taught to respect and appreciate money and was always so aware (whilst not being made to feel ungrateful or indebted) that not everyone had the same abilities where money and budgeting was concerned.

Like I said, that’s the plain side of this; now for a different look at the same issue…

When I first created, I’m NOT Disordered in 2013, blogging wasn’t really a ‘thing’ especially on a mental health theme. At the time, I knew of three well-known mental health blogs and none of them were written by a psychiatric hospital inpatient (as I was then). Whilst this was mostly beneficial because it meant that I had instantly found a niche for my blog and that has probably contributed to its popularity, it was also kind of scary. I felt like there was no one’s footsteps to follow in. No one to guide the way. No one to give me the heads up on the challenges I might face in blogging.
