Welcome to A Secret Blogmas
2025!
Today is Day Three and this third post is all about the benefits and impact of balancing the types of content that you create and publish on your social media or blog/platform. In this post I’ll talk through the different types of content, I’ll present a few ideas and resources for each of them, and I’ll look at the benefits to balancing them. Keep reading to find out why balancing content format/type can impact the success and popularity of your content and/or your platform…
When asked,
Chat GPT told me the most popular formats of online content so far in 2025 are:
1.
Short Form Video e.g. TikTok/Reels/YouTube
Shorts
2.
Long Form Video e.g. YouTube and live
streaming
3.
Podcasts and other Audio Content
4.
Interactive Content e.g. Polls and content
with clickable elements etc.
5.
Written Content e.g. blog posts, news articles,
and guides etc.
1. Reach Different Audiences
- Not everyone consumes content the same way.
- Some people prefer quick entertainment (short-form video), others
want depth (blogs, podcasts, long videos).
- By mixing formats, you tap into multiple audience segments.
2. Maximize Visibility Across Platforms
- Algorithms favour different formats on each platform.
- TikTok & Instagram →
Short videos.
- YouTube → Both short and
long videos.
- Google Search → Blogs,
articles, guides.
- LinkedIn → Text posts,
carousels, thought leadership.
- Balancing ensures you don’t rely on a single algorithm (which can
change overnight).
3. Repurposing = Efficiency
- A long-form piece (like a podcast or blog) can be chopped into 10+
short clips for TikTok, Shorts, Reels.
- A viral short-form clip can point people to your longer content
where you build trust and authority.
- This “content ecosystem” multiplies your output without always
starting from scratch.
4. Build Both Awareness and Authority
- Short-form → Great for reach, visibility, and trend-hopping.
- Long-form → Great for credibility, deeper storytelling, and
monetization.
- Together, they take a casual viewer from “I just discovered you”
→ “I trust you and want to stick around.”
5. Different Monetization Paths
- Short-form video: brand deals, affiliate links, reach growth.
- Long-form video/blogs/podcasts: ad revenue, sponsorships, courses,
memberships.
- A mix gives you income stability and prevents over-reliance on one
revenue stream.
6. Platform and Trend Risk Management
- Platforms change: Vine disappeared, TikTok has faced bans,
Instagram shifts focus often.
- If you only create in one format on one platform, you’re
vulnerable.
- Balanced content = safer, long-term career.
I asked
Chat GPT the above question, here’s the response:
What kind
of content shows up most:
- Long-form blog posts: Deep reflections, mental health stories,
lived experience content, tutorials or guidance (e.g. working with mental
health services, abuse reporting, etc.).
- Personal essays and narrative content: The author shares their
experiences, thoughts, feelings, recovery journeys.
- Advice / Support / Guidance: Posts offering advice or insights
about mental health issues, recovery, working with institutions, etc.
- Collaborations or jointly authored/partnered work: Sometimes
content is created in collaboration with external organizations or
projects, which also tends to bring in more structure, quotes, sources etc.
Why that
format works for them:
- Written, in-depth content allows for richer storytelling and helps
build trust & authenticity, especially for sensitive and personal
topics like mental health or abuse.
- It gives the audience time to reflect, empathize, and engage (e.g.
leaving comments, sharing experiences).
- It’s permanent: readers can come back, refer to it, or find it via
search engines over time.
1. Match
content to the platform used.
2. Listen
to your audience/followers’ feedback!
3. Balance
entertainment with value and personal depth.
4. Track
performance per format to determine most successful/popular!
5. Carefully
experiment with trends!
1. Don’t
post inconsistently across different platforms!
2. Don’t
overproduce everything!
3. Don’t
neglect the analytics!
4. Don’t
just copy-and-paste everywhere!
5. Don’t
ignore your limits!
