RELATING TO: A LITTLE BOOK OF LEADERSHIP LESSONS BY STEPH EDUSEI

*This book and its PDF were gifted to me by the Author*

“Not ‘little’ in that it was diminished or insignificant, but ‘little’ in that it is, I believe, short and snappy. I want it to be the type of book that people will pick up and think, ‘this doesn’t look too overwhelming to read.’ I want it to be the type of book you can dip in and out of and get something out of every chapter individually, without having to read the whole thing.”

‘Introduction’ of A Little of Leadership Lessons by Steph Edusei

Noticing this book on Steph’s Facebook page (which you can follow here), I was immediately taken by the title and the thought of learning something so profound and professional from someone who I have known for a number of years and have met (I used to volunteer for the Communications and Marketing department of the Hospice Steph is CEO of: St Oswald’s Hospice). I was pleasantly surprised to read in the Introduction of the book that there was going to be ‘key learning points’ and ‘suggestions for further learning’ at the end of every Chapter. As Steph writes though: ‘if you don’t feel it’s important to dig into theories and read around a subject right now then just ignore that bit, I completely understand…’I however, love elements like this! So, I seriously couldn’t wait to get started…

HOW I’VE MADE IT THIS FAR | MY NEW BOOK IS AVAILABLE TO BUY NOW!!! | PART 4 OF 4

*Before I began this mini series celebrating the publication of my new book, I did a poll on Twitter to ask if I should split one large post into individual ones and splitting it won, but I wanted to keep things fair and I’ve decided to publish all three previous posts in one massive one too for those who would rather have the content this way… *

 Buy You’re NOT Disordered NOW!!

If you’ve read I’m NOT Disordered for a while or have seen the cover graphic to the left of the blog posts, then you’ll probably know that I released a book a few years ago called Everything Disordered (which you can also buy on Amazon!) and I was honestly worried that having already written a book, the importance and meaning would be taken away in publishing another. Fortunately, the entire process of YND – from having the idea for it to the publication party and everything in between! – has (for so many reasons) felt massively different from that which I experienced with my first book. And one of the largest differences has been the sense of achievement and the notion that it really is a true testament to the progress I’ve made; both in my blogging career and in my mental health recovery journey…

HOW I’VE MADE IT THIS FAR | MY NEW BOOK IS AVAILABLE TO BUY NOW!!! | PART 3 OF 4

*This post is the third of 4 which will be finished publishing tomorrow!*

Buy You’re NOT Disordered NOW!!

I feel like these pieces of content demanding teamwork are hugely valuable and responsible for how far my blog has come, especially in terms of the readership count. The obvious logic behind this is that in working with other bloggers, organisations, or online influencers, you very typically receive double the publicity than you would if it were a post created solely by yourself because you’ve attracted their following too.

This has worked especially well for me, and for I’m NOT Disordered when I’ve collaborated with a person or an organisation who have a very different following and target audience to me and my blog because it has enabled me to make my blog’s content applicable and attractive to those who might not have given it the time of day without the collaboration or partnership label. And, with everyone having mental health and it just depending on how well or otherwise a person’s is, I’m NOT Disordered can end up actually being genuinely appropriate for those new readers too.

HOW I’VE MADE IT THIS FAR | MY NEW BOOK IS AVAILABLE TO BUY NOW!!! | PART 2 OF 4

*This post is the second of 4 which will be posted every day for the following two days!*

Buy You’re NOT Disordered NOW!!

The three most obvious, go-to answers that you seriously just expect to hear when you ask someone how they have recovered from their mental illness: hospital, medication, and therapy. Fortunately – or unfortunately, I guess, depending upon how you look at it – for me, all three are true…

When my mental health deteriorated it did so in the form of auditory hallucinations, which I somehow ‘tolerated’ for around ten days before finally making my first suicide attempt. After passing out at school I was taken to hospital in an ambulance and then I ran away. The Police were called and when they found me when I had almost reached the nearby bus station, they detained me under section 136 of the 1983 Mental Health Act and I was pretty much thrown into their car and driven back to hospital where a Mental Health Act assessment promptly took place in a little room I’d never been in before in A&E. I honestly don’t’ remember much about it, just that I was told the Police could finally go and if I continued to try and leave the hospital then the staff were now allowed to restrain me, sedate me, and force me to finish the necessary, potentially life-saving medical treatment to counteract my suicide attempt.

GUEST POST: SO YOU WANT TO WRITE A BOOK? | HERE'S SOME ADVICE BEFORE YOU START | BY BLOGGER & AUTHOR; MARTIN BAKER

I’m grateful to Aimee for inviting me to contribute an article about writing a book. In doing so, Ill draw primarily on my experience as co-author with Fran Houston of High Tide Low Tide: The Caring Friends Guide to Bipolar Disorder (2016, Nordland Publishing). An extended edition was published by Kingston Park Publishing in 2021. Ill cover some practical steps to think about in preparing to write your book. Your platform as an author, marketing and promotion, and the various routes to publication are also important, but are out of scope of this article. My suggestions are most relevant to non-fiction but many of the topics apply no matter what kind of book you want to write...

EVERYTHING DISORDERED’S OFFICIAL RELEASE | EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE PROCESS MY BOOK WENT THROUGH

BUY EVERYTHING DISORDERED: https://amzn.to/3uOhJ09

Please use #EverythingDisordered on social media so that I can see your posts!

Honestly, this is one of numerous posts which I would have never imagined I’d end up writing! I don’t know if that’s saying a lot though considering the number of things that have come from blogging that I would have never expected. I mean, I’m NOT Disordered started with a target audience of just a handful of special people, and it now has over 870,000 readers! Having such little expectations of my blog meant that I’ve been extremely pleasantly surprised by the incredible opportunities it has brought me and the benefits it has brought to my life. And, of course, this is so true and applicable to the release of my new book: Everything Disordered…

The dream:

The inspiration for Everything Disordered actually stemmed from a number of different places, but firstly, since writing my short stories about ponies going on adventures when I was little, I’ve loved the idea of writing a book.

I used to love handing my stories and notebooks over to my Nana who would laugh and smile and was forever asking me to write more. It taught me, from a very young age, that writing can have power and influence over a reader’s thoughts and feelings. That your words can change a person’s day, week, month, year or even, life! I thought that having a wild imagination at that age meant that fiction was the perfect genre for my writing and even though I was young, I couldn’t envision writing in any other way.

The inspiration:

I’m NOT Disordered didn’t start off with a lot of faith in it. Not just from others – but I think I underestimated it too. With my target audience being my friends and family, I never thought for one minute that it would amount to all that it is today.

THE DARK SIDE OF THE MIND | A Q&A WITH THE AUTHOR, A BOOK REVIEW, & THE LAUNCH OF THE COMPETITION | IN COLLABORATION WITH KERRY DAYNES

“All crimes are committed by – and happen to – people. Forensic psychology is about them.”

Kerry Daynes

Those who follow my social media (the links are to the right!) will know that I’ve started a Forensic Psychology course with Centre of Excellence. I’m only onto Module Two and have been so fascinated that I started looking for books on the subject on Amazon and I came across Kerry Dayne’s book, The Dark Side of The Mind. I immediately bought it and searched for her on Twitter and I was over the moon to see that her direct message inbox was open. When she replied? I was even happier! A little bit shocked too – I mean it’s a little surreal to have someone who’s name is on a book you’re holding message you on social media!

So, here’s the result of our conversation – my favourite parts of her book, a Q&A with Kerry Daynes, and a competition to win a signed copy of her book!

To win a signed copy of Kerry’s book, all you have to do is go to my Twitter (here) and share the pinned tweet! (Each person will be given a number in order of when they shared it and an app will randomly choose one number!)

1.     Have you always wanted to work in Psychology? What did you want to be when you were really little?

24HRS WITH... AUTHOR, ANGELA CLARKE

So, I began reading Angela Clarke's Follow Me while in Hospital and it was the greatest distraction; inevitably, I tweeted a quote from the book and unexpectedly, Angela tweeted me back! And so this post was born...

Good morning!

What time did you wake up?

5 am.

Why did you wake up at that time?

Because I’m a masochist. Okay, because I’m on deadline for a feature film proposal.

Did you have a dream?

Yes, I did have a dream. Half of it was about words on a page, moving around and scrolling, and images that are recognisable from the movie I was working on before I went to bed (that happens when I work long hours). And the other half, inexplicably, involved a Moomin mug.

Do you think today will be 'good' or 'bad' day? (use your own definition of these words to answer the question)
