BUDGET BLOGMAS | DAY TWELVE: AN INTRODUCTION TO THE GIFT GUIDES | IN COLLABORATION WITH PRETTY PERFECT PRODUCTS | AD

Hello and welcome to I’m NOT Disordered’s Budget Blogmas!

So, today is an introduction to probably the most stereotypical and predictable posts of a Blogmas series: Gift Guides…

The importance of being unique:

From the very beginning of creating this year’s Blogmas, I knew that I’d end up publishing some gift guides during the series… It wasn’t that I didn’t want to do them; it was just a sort of reluctance because of the thought that gift guides are just so predictable.

When I first created I’m NOT Disordered in 2013, there were really only three well-known mental health blogs and none of them were written by a current psychiatric hospital inpatient. Without even trying, I had found a niche! And I fully believe that having that – having that special, unique quality to my blog; really aided in its first few years. I think it helped my blog to ‘take off’ and become so popular that it has earned me a huge number of incredibly amazing and exciting opportunities.

With that experience in mind, I’m very aware that now the blogging industry is so saturated – particularly by mental health blogs – it’s more important than ever to maintain some sense of individuality if I want to continue to grow I’m NOT Disordered, its audience, and the opportunities it provides me. And so, to do this, I put a ton of effort and time into attempting to make my content original and different in some way – any way – that will leave readers feeling somewhat benefited in a way that they may have been missing out amongst blogs which have similar content.

BUDGET BLOGMAS | DAY EIGHT: THE IMPORTANCE OF A FESTIVE ENVIRONMENT | IN COLLABORATION WITH PRETTY PERFECT PRODUCTS | AD

Hello and welcome to I’m NOT Disordered’s Budget Blogmas!

So now that it’s widely agreed that it’s acceptable to put up your Christmas decorations(!), I thought I’d discuss why having a festive, Christmassy home is so important to me…

Growing up, I can remember three specific Christmas decorations:

1.     A Christmas stocking: it was a very plush, red stocking with a fluffy dog on the top that we nicknamed Judy in memory of the dog Mum grew up with.

2.     A china nativity set: the little Jesus once fell upside down and so every year we’d be looking for him and the little manger with yellow ‘hay’ would seem empty, but actually; if we just turned it the right way…!

BUDGET BLOGMAS | DAY TWO: WHY MONEY IS SO IMPORTANT IN BLOGGING & SOME ADVICE ON IT | IN COLLABORATION WITH PRETTY PERFECT PRODUCTS | AD

Hello and welcome to I’m NOT Disordered’s Budget Blogmas!

I thought that after the introductory post yesterday I should start off the real content with a bit of a typical and perhaps predictable piece about money and why it’s important enough to be a theme for an entire series of Blogmas…

I think it’d be really plain for me to sit here and talk about how I was raised around money and budgeting. To tell you that whilst I don’t remember ever wanting or being deprived of anything; I also wasn’t spoilt and never revelled in pocket money or being given gifts when it wasn’t even a special occasion! It meant that I was taught to respect and appreciate money and was always so aware (whilst not being made to feel ungrateful or indebted) that not everyone had the same abilities where money and budgeting was concerned.

Like I said, that’s the plain side of this; now for a different look at the same issue…

When I first created, I’m NOT Disordered in 2013, blogging wasn’t really a ‘thing’ especially on a mental health theme. At the time, I knew of three well-known mental health blogs and none of them were written by a psychiatric hospital inpatient (as I was then). Whilst this was mostly beneficial because it meant that I had instantly found a niche for my blog and that has probably contributed to its popularity, it was also kind of scary. I felt like there was no one’s footsteps to follow in. No one to guide the way. No one to give me the heads up on the challenges I might face in blogging.

BUDGET BLOGMAS | DAY ONE: INTRODUCTION | IN COLLABORATION WITH PRETTY PERFECT PRODUCTS

Hello and welcome to I’m NOT Disordered’s Budget Blogmas!

Today, I thought I’d do a bit of an introduction to the series and explain the inspiration and thinking process behind it. Plus, I’ll tell you a little bit of what to expect from the series…

A huge contributor to the idea of this year’s Blogmas theme was actually my Mum – so a massive thank you to her! And as usual, I kind of snowballed from her idea and created an entire series of Blogmas content!

WHY I’M DOING THIS…

On thinking about the topic, the Social Media Manager had suggested, I decided to take on the theme for a number of reasons:

1.     So many Bloggers use this time of the year as an excuse to create elaborate gift guides full of items and products half of their readers may not be able to afford. This is one of the many reasons why I appreciate Victoria Magrath’s content on www.inthefrow.com because she tends to cater to her target audience and so the content and the price of the things she blogs about, are relevant and appropriate. Now, I’ve really enjoyed doing gift guides or picking out items and products which I would buy if I could afford it, but there’s a difference between letting your imagination run wild and giving your readers unrealistic goals and expectations.
