Now, you know that I like to try to disperse light-hearted content on my blog as a means of breaking up the very heavy and emotional posts I typically publish. Of course, this often feels like a waste of time because people likely aren’t coming to, I’m NOT Disordered for this kind of content, and I actually sometimes worry that I’ll lose readers, but from Day One my blog has been about what I benefit from writing about… My eldest pet (I have three – a second bunny and a cat too!) Luna will be FOUR YEARS OLD on October 1^st and so we sat down together (as you do!) and put together a wish list of treats and toys from Amazon UK. We thought we’d share it with you all for any fellow bunnies/bunny owners who are deserving of some lovely bits and pieces too! There are a few absolute bargains in it! Enjoy…

JOIN ME AT A LATE-NIGHT CHARITY SHOPPING EVENT WITH ST OSWALD’S HOSPICE

At the end of January this year, the wonderful charity St Oswald’s Hospice opened a brand-new store in Blyth, Northumberland. I was so excited with this news because I actually volunteered for the charity’s Communications and Marketing Department from December 2019 until February 2023 as a Digital Volunteer. I also completed two temporary contracts with them, one as a Communications and Marketing Assistant and the other as Kickstart Project Coordinator. So, needless to say, I’m very dedicated, supportive and passionate about the charity and all that they do. So, I wanted to tell you about their Alternative Christmas List Appeal, which is their Christmas Campaign. It is aimed at providing insight into the various impacts that different figures of donations can have on the charity, the Hospice specifically, and their patients. For example, £150 will fill the Christmas Eve boxes for the children who use the Hospice’s Services, and £450 will fund thirty bereavement sessions at a time of year when loss can hurt that little bit differently…

So, I was browsing Etsy for Mother’s Day gifts for the previous blog post (which you can read here) when I came across this incredible gift from the amazingly talented Paper Emporium which I immediately personalised and added to my basket as a gift for my Mum for Mother’s Day! And that means so much to me, because Martin is the only person in my life who has a blog and with I’m NOT Disordered being one of the biggest and most important parts of my life, it’s so crucial that I have someone to talk to about it who will truly understand where I’m coming from. And so, our chat – when we went for food after the Market – about the effort going into Blogmas 2022, inspired me to write this post…

And from there, Ciara (the Design Parlour’s owner) and I got talking and put together a collaboration piece (THE ULTIMATE BIRTHDAY GIFT GUIDE | IN COLLABORATION WITH ETSY | I'm NOT Disordered (imnotdisordered.co.uk)) and then – as with so many things in my blogging career – it snowballed into something so much bigger…

So, this post is inspired by our first print we’ll be selling only on the Design Parlour’s Etsy store, and in honour of MHAW, we’ve kept it connected to the ‘loneliness’ theme and will be donating 10% of sales to the mental health charity: Mind. Using the phrase ‘you are not alone’ inspired me to write this piece about how you can help and comfort someone who is feeling lonely…

Relate, but don’t start a competition

When someone you know or care about – or sometimes, even complete strangers – voices a thought, feeling, or experience that you can relate to in some way, it’s incredibly hard to resist saying “I understand.” It can even be difficult to stop yourself from explaining why you believe that you ‘understand’ what they’re going through. But it’s important to recognise that one of the biggest dangers in talking about your own experiences can be a sense of competition. It can leave the person comparing what you’ve been through with their own situation and feeling somewhat minimised and unimportant.
