Now, you know that I like to try to disperse light-hearted content on my blog as a means of breaking up the very heavy and emotional posts I typically publish. Of course, this often feels like a waste of time because people likely aren’t coming to, I’m NOT Disordered for this kind of content, and I actually sometimes worry that I’ll lose readers, but from Day One my blog has been about what I benefit from writing about… My eldest pet (I have three – a second bunny and a cat too!) Luna will be FOUR YEARS OLD on October 1st and so we sat down together (as you do!) and put together a wish list of treats and toys from Amazon UK. We thought we’d share it with you all for any fellow bunnies/bunny owners who are deserving of some lovely bits and pieces too! There are a few absolute bargains in it! Enjoy…

So, I was browsing Etsy for Mother’s Day gifts for the previous blog post (which you can read here) when I came across this incredible gift from the amazingly talented Paper Emporium which I immediately personalised and added to my basket as a gift for my Mum for Mother’s Day! It’s basically a print (which you can choose to have framed at an extra cost) and you type in a location, a time, and a date and then they print what the sky looked like on that exact occasion. You can obviously choose to use any sort of special date or anniversary, but I picked the date, time, and place where I was born. Then you can type in a title that goes above the star image (I put: ‘The Day You Brought Me Into The World’) and a message (I wrote ‘Forever Grateful For You xxx’) for the bottom of it. I was so proud and chuffed with this gift that I got in touch with the lovely Paper Emporium team and pitched the idea of a collaboration and they even created the exclusive discount code (BLOG30) for a whopping 30% off any of their items!!
I like to promote that caring about gifts doesn’t make a person ‘superficial’ or ‘materialistic’ – it can actually mean the opposite and be about the pure thought that’s gone into the gift, or the benefits it will have on a person’s life/mental health. So, I’m very honoured to be collaborating with Etsy.co.uk again for this piece, which was inspired by my trawl through their site for gifts for my best-friends Birthday next week!

Kind of feel
like I’m jumping on a blogging bandwagon because everyone’s started publishing
their Valentines content (typically in the form of gift guides). I wanted this
post to be a nice balance in recognising that I’m NOT Disordered is primarily a
‘mental health blog,’ whilst also still being able to create a gift guide… So,
here’s a chat about the impact mental health can have on Valentines Day and a gift
guide with a twist…
Growing up, I was surrounded by love, support, and respect. I was always
told how much I meant to my family and how important and appreciated I was. So,
I literally had no reason or influence on me holding such opposite thoughts
about myself… until the abuse.
When I was fifteen and the abuse began, it was like… Like almost everything
I’d ever known had disappeared and what was left had just completely changed to
the point where it wasn’t at all recognisable or in any way familiar. All of a sudden,
I felt so insignificant; but I guess that was almost bound to be my response when
I was being treat so horribly. I mean, it’d take a pretty robust person to go
through that sort of abuse and still remain kind and loving to yourself!
I think that the most influential part of the abuse on my thoughts of myself, was the things that my abuser would say whilst he hurt me. I mean, it didn’t start off with a terrible… I don’t know. Just that in the beginning he would say that he actually really liked me and that I was pretty, and whilst what happened was still so completely against my wishes; it kind of meant that I felt I couldn’t report it immediately because his words made me question the degree of wrong-ness of the entire thing! Like, how could I tell the Police, knowing that when they questioned him, he would likely say he cared about me? How could I expect them to see it as a crime when he would say he had ‘innocent’ intentions/motivations?
As some of you may already
know, I recently (for a good few months now) have found a lot of enjoyment in
creating Canva images and especially, I absolutely loved creating the wish
lists for Blogmas! And initially, I felt the urge to explain my decision to
continue to feature such content on a blog that is primarily about mental
health, but then I remembered that it’s my blog! I can respect and appreciate
the feedback readers give me, but I also have to balance that with creating
content I actually really enjoy!

So, today is an introduction to probably the most stereotypical and predictable posts of a Blogmas series: Gift Guides…
The importance of being unique:
From the very beginning of creating this year’s Blogmas, I knew that I’d end up publishing some gift guides during the series… It wasn’t that I didn’t want to do them; it was just a sort of reluctance because of the thought that gift guides are just so predictable.
When I first created I’m NOT Disordered in 2013, there were really only three well-known mental health blogs and none of them were written by a current psychiatric hospital inpatient. Without even trying, I had found a niche! And I fully believe that having that – having that special, unique quality to my blog; really aided in its first few years. I think it helped my blog to ‘take off’ and become so popular that it has earned me a huge number of incredibly amazing and exciting opportunities.
With that experience in mind, I’m very aware that now the blogging industry is so saturated – particularly by mental health blogs – it’s more important than ever to maintain some sense of individuality if I want to continue to grow I’m NOT Disordered, its audience, and the opportunities it provides me. And so, to do this, I put a ton of effort and time into attempting to make my content original and different in some way – any way – that will leave readers feeling somewhat benefited in a way that they may have been missing out amongst blogs which have similar content.
Hello and welcome to recommendation number thirteen of Blogmas 2020 with I’m NOT Disordered!

Hello and welcome to recommendation number ten in Blogmas 2020 with I’m NOT Disordered!
Today, I want to do something not completely un-heard of for me; shed light on the importance of pets and ‘recommend’ them and maybe, even some Christmas presents for your furry family members!
Also, very proud to say that this post is in collaboration with Bandana Bowtique who I've had the amazing opportunity to design some Christmassy pet bandanas for! And they've kindly gifted you all a 10% discount code on any of their bandanas! It’s no secret that I find having my pets (a lop-eared, Lionhead bunny called Pixie, and a calico rescue cat named Emmy) really beneficial to my mental health.
I barely remember the pets I had growing up; they were mostly Syrian hamsters, I had two Russian Dwarf Hamsters too and a gerbil at one point! But I was so young, and my childhood was so idyllic that I can’t recall them ever having some kind of impact on my mental health because I wasn’t really aware of its existence!
The
last two pets I had at my Mum’s home were a Fish called Elvis, a Syrian Hamster
called Butter, and a black cat called Saffy. While I was in the specialist psychiatric
hospital over 100 miles away from home, my loved ones, and my pets; the Hamster
and Fish passed away because both animals have a short lifespan. The cat,
however, lived for just over twelve years and didn’t pass away until I was in
my own home two years after my hospital discharge in 2014.

With it almost being December, everyone at LEAPS are trying to get into the festive spirit… But with our previous Chair being very poorly right now, this is an extremely difficult and challenging thing to do.
So, to highlight our appreciation for the previous Chair, and for everyone on the Committee and the group members, I’ve put together a little Christmassy gift guide full of the ideal presents to give to your colleagues or volunteers…
